New Junction Public Open Space Stage 2 Consultation
Stage One: Under Construction
The City has commenced construction of Stage 1 works for the first public open space in the New Junction precinct. Stage 1 construction includes an urban recreation ground with a kick-about green space, running track and grandstand seating, a civic precinct with native trees which pay tribute to Midland’s agricultural heritage and a multi-age play elements for juniors and teens.
Stage Two: Seeking Feedback
Stage 2 works are proposed to include construction of a unique, custom play space which has been conceptualised on the habitats of 11 insects unique to Western Australia. It is designed to inspire play, discovery, curiosity and delight.
The play space includes:
a chrysalis slide tower,
wetland play area,
snout-nosed katydid climbing cubby,
habitat cubbies, parent’s bench and
toddler’s corral.
Stage 2 works will also include finalisation of the public open space through additional landscaping works and public art installations.
The City will be hosting an information session on the design for interested community members. Register to attend by contacting Liah Ale on (08) 9267 9267 or email.
The closing date for your feedback is 5 September. Your feedback will inform the recommendations on the schematic design of the public space presented to Council at a future meeting. Construction is planned 2020/21, pending budget adoption.
