The second stage of Weeip Park is taking shape with construction underway on the children's play area and public toilets.

City of Swan Mayor Kevin Bailey said Weeip Park is supported by a $1 million contribution from the Stefanelli family and $1.3 million grant from Lotterywest.

"The generous contribution from the Stefanelli family, founders of local business group Stefanelli Nominees, was made in celebration of founding director Giovanni Stefanelli's strong connection to the Midland community since he arrived from southern Italy in 1950," he said.

"Lotterywest have committed $1.3 million which will go towards important facilities for our young generations to enjoy, helping to build a better Western Australia together."

Speaking on behalf of his family and grandfather Giovanni, Daniel Stefanelli said they have been very fortunate to be a part of Midland’s history and now take this opportunity to provide for Midland’s future, its youth.

"We’ve called Midland home for 70 years and this project represents an opportunity for more people to call it theirs," he said.

The design concept of the children's play space is based on the habitats of insects unique to Western Australia, and designed to inspire play, discovery and curiosity about our natural environment.

Keep an eye out for updates and sneak peaks of the design over the next few months.
